Design flexibility of the Type 5 allows
for a wide range of variations in design. The most common design is the
spring loaded single seal, as depicted in the diagram above, with
designs for reverse pressure capabilities, double seal configurations,
and arrangements used in tandem with the Type 1 seal, available too.
For high pressure applications the
labyrinth ring assembly (item # 4) can be pressure balanced to reduce
face pressure and allow close dynamic tracking.
To ensure the lowest possible leakage for
your application, a computer-aided analysis is used to determine the
optimum clearance between the labyrinth ring assembly and the shaft or
sleeve.
