Application Engineering
The optimum in cost and service is typically a properly applied
standard design bearing, often modified slightly via tolerances,
lubrication, materials, etc. to meet the performance requirements of
a given application to effectively, and efficiently resolve specific
applications, gather known data regarding conditions, then
prioritizing performance requirements into crucial vs. desirable (

Product
/ Process Design and Development
In
some situations, "application" of existing products or
materials is not enough to produce the desired results.
PSI is involved in an ongoing effort to improve the performance and
reliability (as well as cost) of our products. Your longer range
interests and needs are of interest to us, and valuable input to our
new product development as well as existing product / process
improvement efforts.

Since
proper installation is crucial to reliable bearing performance,
utilization of proper techniques and tooling is essential.
The Rexnord Aerospace Division, through the
Shafer
Bearing Tooling products, offers the Tri Roller Swaging tool for
simple, fast , and reliable installation of all types of grooved
outer ring bearings.

Plant
Testing
Testing at the Simi Valley facility is focused on product quality
characteristics and basic material / physical production.
Design and Application Testing
For existing products, a planned program of testing for development
/ refinement of application limits and performance capabilities is
conducted at the RTS test
center.
Likewise, design or process improvements are evaluated to assure a
solid engineering knowledge of product performance capability.
Specific application and qualification testing, run on a variety of
computer controlled test machines, provides specific results.
Failure
Analysis and Evaluation
Utilizing
the combination of PSI plain bearing experience and expertise, in
concert with RTS staff and systems, detailed evaluations of test
samples of field failure is possible, drawing on FEMA, due, etc.
techniques in concert with physical material and chemical laboratory
capabilities.
