Split Race Design
A
"Split race" design typically involves an axial separation of the outer race
(although circumferential "split" designs are also manufactured) - eliminating
the need for the "entry window" of the slotted entry design. However,
manufacturing expertise and control are crucial in matching the "halves",
retaining sphericity, etc. - to allow the design to function properly, i.e.
accept motion and misalignment.
Why Are They Used?
The split race design
eliminates the "entry window", thus provides equal axial load
capabilities in either direction allowing, more total bearing area,
capacity, etc., plus ease of installation and replacement.
Where Are They Used?
Where size is to large for swaged
bearing. Since load direction is typically known, split
race bearings are often found in landing gears and high load
& high stiffness are required.
What Is Available? From the Catalog
The split ball design comes in a
standard series P2A6600 along with countless custom designs.
